Just did 30 hour famine today (and throughout yesterday).
I think it was a good experience although I probably could have gone longer.
To be honest I didnt really feel that hungry. I guess none of us living here will really know what its like to feel/die from chronic hunger.
Thats the points of doing 30 hour famine I guess, to raise money for the less fortunate and to think about these kind of things. An interesting and sort of sad thing to me is that there is enough food in the world to feed everyone, yet so many people go hungry and die of hunger related issues every day. :(
30 hours is no where near enough to experience what anyone truly does go through who suffer from starvation.
ReplyDelete...what Ron said... try a week next time. ;)
ReplyDeleteAt university last year we did this thing where you got 2 cups of rice a day for 5 days and that was it. Then we wrote about it or filmed it or used whatever medium you wanted. Turned out some pretty powerful stuff. and let me tell you, a week with only rice really sucks
ReplyDeleteThis is a neat idea. Did you donate the money you didn't spend on food?
ReplyDeleteA death from hunger is really a stupid and horrible death

I really feel like doing this now, I'd actually like to experience a small amount of what people in unfavorable positions have to experience every day. I think it would be good for me and make me value food much more.
ReplyDeleteYea wish this would be more celebrated so people know what happens to the starving.
ReplyDeleteI was homeless for five years, and spent many days without food. I think the longest I went was four days, and that was awful. I could not lower myself to begging, so I only ate when I could find a little work. I could manage a decent amount of nutrition on $4-$6 a day....
ReplyDeleteI do not miss those days.
this really makes you sick about some less visible corners of the world..
ReplyDelete30 hours? that's hard
